but to add to that, depending on the condition of the automatics (perhaps regardless of the condition of the automatics), now is also the time to do a 5 speed conversion! That's a whole heck of a lot of work to do and then have the autobox fail. Depending what is left of the guts of the vert, you might even be able to do a LPT conversion at the same time... How many miles on the '89 motor? Those 2.0L's can go forever it seems...
You could end up with a very nice car, but you will need some time and experience. Good luck!
I'm going to add an edit in here because I re-read your post after seeing jimmy's post... your engine is using a ton of oil! Jimmy's right (he knows his stuff) you may indeed be better off just buying a good one unless you are mainly looking for a make work project...
