If anything, it moves the idler gear closer to the reverse gear. Neither Justin or CMyles think it'll have an effect. From what I've seen I can't imagine it would either. Pull the side cover off and have a look, it's pretty obvious that an adjustment to the idler gear (which is what "the fix" is)can't possible affect the symptoms your describing. You're just slightly tweaking the angle on the arm that engages the idler gear.
