1991 C900 non-turbo...
Yesterday on the long haul from Pittsburgh to Chicago --driving along the Insterstate higways on an extremely hot day (90ยบ F or more!)-- over the course of maybe thirty minutes I lost all clutch pedal pressure, couldn't shift or start or stop the car and ended up somehow managing to make it 250 miles (c. 380km) entirely in fourth, not stopping or downshifting even once (1), and thence navigating the streets of my home into to my driveway. Did have to run a couple of stoplights and the tollbooths were a little tricky where even the EZ-pass lanes had control gates. Pedal was so dead that when in front of my house, after I finally stalled the car out still stuck in fourth, was justl barely able to shift into reverse to get the key out.
This morning, after a fairly cool night, some pedal pressure re-appeared and I could start the car moving from reverse or 2nd (couldn't get it into first at all), and the rest of the gear pattern was all working.
I assume it is a clutch master cylinder problem. No detectable fluid loss from the reservoir atop the ABS master cylinder assembly, which also supplies the clutch hydraulics.
Why, apparently a temperature dependent hydraulic failure, and what to do now??
(I had bled the clutch hydraulics a few weeks ago using Chris Myles's method, but never felt that the full pedal disengagement was achieved even with pumping.
