Control arm bushings - torque at "ride height" Posted by DET17 [Email] (#1254) [Profile/Gallery] (more from DET17) on Sun, 29 Sep 2013 06:02:49 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
OK, I've mostly completed my 91 TC 5 speed project Inga. Put the top down and cruised the 'hood yesterday with the wife.....she had no issues shifting the 5 speed, so that is good news.
One of my outstanding tasks is to torque the UCA and LCA rubber bushings to the control arms shafts (nuts). Even tho Bentley shows them pre-set at various angles prior to install, I decided to rebuild the car and let them float until the full weight of the car was on them, and then torque them in place. Most other breeds recommend this method......but of course, SAAB is different.
I've confirmed I can reach them all with the torque wrench (rear UCA beneath the brake master is tough, but doable.
The conundrum.....the front end seems to be higher than I recall, even with them loose. Same turbo springs, new SACHS gas Turbo shocks, all else is recycled. I thought a ride around the hood would bring it down...but not much change. Next I will likely take a couple 100 miler through the hills and see if that results in them allowing the front to resume the normal position.
Last resort - mark full suspension travel with a white pen on shaft/bush, and then "force" it to the mid travel and torque them there to spec.
Whatdayathink? Anyone else been down this road?
