Re: Adjustable AIC Mod (it was a glorious failure) Posted by Notnoel [Email] (#23) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Notnoel) on Mon, 14 Oct 2013 12:47:27 In Reply to: Re: Adjusting AIC, Landjet [Profile/Gallery] , Sat, 12 Oct 2013 15:16:38 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Yes, I did that. I had a bunch of problems with the system that I eventually fixed so the stock unit works just fine, but along the way I gave it a try.
Just drilled out the stop and threaded the hole. Then, I put a nut about a 1/4-1/2 inch longer than what was needed to reach the stop in the fully closed position. Then I put two bolts on an threaded the bolt in, followed by JB-welding the lower bolt to the AIC body and leaving the upper bolt to act as a lock on the setting.
All in all very elegant, but I am not sure at all necessary. I think what happens in practice is that the opening that is regulated by the EPC is slightly larger than the stock fully closed position (open about 1/16 inch). Therefore, although this mod lets me dial the fully closed position down further, the EPC immediately overrides it. At least that is how it appeared to me once I got the last of my vacuum leaks purged.
Somewhere, this thing is sitting in a little box. I'll see if I can find it and take a couple of snaps. If you can't find that last vacuum leak, consider the PVC valve hose (that was my ultimate culprit). Once I got that fixed everything worked fine and no fiddling with my clever little mod made any difference.
PS. If you have a known good AIC and want to try mine out, I'll swap you if you want to pay the postage (in exchange for all that fabrication time, unless you are like me and just have to tinker).
