thanks for the quick replies, and Justin too. Well.... I'll use that exercise as a dry run for pulling the same harness out of the actual 1987 3 door rust bucket donor car. have the procedure down pretty well now so will just do it again. will keep the 91 harness for connectors and all that just in case. the internal wiring of the 87 convertible is fine, just the engine bay.
btw, it's really not too difficult to get out, especially if the engine/trans is out. there is a plate behind the left headlight that you remove and that opens a passthru the size of a pie plate, easy peasy. start at the right headlight and just follow to the fuse panel taking everything along the way. the only real difficult part, and we learned how to do it properly, is the fuse panel. several short screws or bolts and you can pull the entire thing off the fenderwell, you do have to remove the three inside connectors first.
generally I was trying to prep the target car as much as possible before starting the last phase, engine yank and move to target car. but this will just add another day, or two at max, and maybe less now that we've done it and will be using the correct stuff to put it back together.
I think I'll start pictures of this tomorrow night before we hose out the engine bay of the target car...
thanks guys.
