There were problems with the 1989 ECU. The coil could be suspect as well -- and if it is not properly mounted, when the hood is closed, it can wack it out by grounding it, or causing poor connections.
I would try to find an 89-1990 ECU part number ending in 570 as I recall. The coil would be easier and probably cheaper to source.
The other thing that comes to mind is a bad AMM.
Check the connector to the TPS and make sure it is not corroded nor the NTC. Check the ohms ( since you know the drill on that ) on the NTC and the continuity on the TPS.
Kind of a long list, but there will be at least three things wrong, and each branch of failure has another three things dangling as well......
Do the easy stuff first like cleaning contact and grounds.
