If you're reasonable dexterous and have long skinny arms like me, you can reach them by removing the knee bolster. You've already got the driver's seat out, and that'll make it less of an exercise in the contortionist's art. That said, it's still a bit of a PITA because it's still pretty cramped up in that corner.
IF you do chose to take the dash out, it would be a great time to replace the heater fan, replace the paper tubes for side window defogging with something a bit less brittle, and clean & reseal the dash vents. I've done it. It's not that bad a job, but you'll want to spend about a day in a warm, dry, well-lighted area.
Oh, yeah, you can also clean the bulkhead connector terminals with contact cleaner with the dash out.
