E-codes are the european-spec headlights that were provided European C900s up to the end of production and on Canadian C900s up to '90 or so. They have a better light pattern than the US-spec headlights and have lenses that can be removed for cleaning.
They use H-4 bulbs, which won't fit in the US-spec headlights. Even if they would fit, the light pattern is dependent on the lens and the reflector in conjunction with the placement of the bulb filament (which is different than the 9004, so the results would be poor.
I nabbed a used set of Hella e-codes on eBay a couple of years ago. There are also aftermarket e-codes that can be gotten new and reports vary on how good they are. Hella lists them in their German catalog and they're available on German eBay, but be prepared to shell put major $$$$$ to get them.
