Hi Albert, If you suspect the cold start system, you can test the Cold Start Injector. Remove it from the intake assy and put in a cup or jar. When cranking the engine, it should be spraying a mist of fuel if it's cold enough. You can shunt the temp switch on the intake manifold to force it to work in warmer conditions.
If not spraying, I would start by checking the wiring on the starter. The cold start injector gets it's cue to operate partially from the starter operating. I think it only operates when the starter turns. There is a wire that connects from the starter to the Cold Start Inj that takes a lot of heat (and oil) abuse and likes to fall off eventually. As I recall there is a Temp sensor on the intake manifold too. You can eliminate the possibility of that being bad by shunting the 2 wires connecting to it, effectively completing the circuit where the properly working sensor in cold temps would have done so.
I love the 8 valve engines, they are very reliable. In fact the longest running SAABs we have had were 8 valves. Good luck.
