Air Mass Meter

My '91 c900, non-turbo, c. 140K mi on the odometer, had for some months been giving signs of Air Mass Meter (AMM) problems: wouldn't idle when cold, when warmed up ran generally OK, but would stutter, lurch and buck at low RPM in higher gears long before downshifting would have been required earlier. And the MPGs was down 30% from usual. I finally got into the AMM yesterday and ran the first two Bentley manual tests: no sign of the AMM wire glowing 4 secs after shutting off ignition after running up to 2500 RPM, no voltage between the specified pins on the AMM cable pins 4 secs after shutdown, for the self-cleaning burnoff. But there was the correct 12VDC between pins 1-5 when the ignition was turned on. Tried the CRC AMM spray cleaner (wire looks intact), and cleaned up the several grounding points on the cylinder head near the thermostat. No improvement. Appears that now I have to peel back the PS interior trim to access the control relays and FI CPU, but that looks like a bitch to access. I'd guess the AMM itself is probably OK and the problem is downstream from there. Other ideas or feedback?
