These cars are known for having grounding issues associated with the rear light clusters.
The fix is to add a ground wire from the metal neg(ground) trace on the light cluster to the car chassis somewhere nearby. If this has not been done, I would go ahead and do it. It's mostly the 4 dr and vert, but again, I would just do this:
I use a self tapping screw to drill into the light cluster and another on the chassis too. Put a wire between the two points. There are large enough areas of the cluster where you can drill into the metal that is the neg side, or ground. easy fix, should help with your problem, since it does have to do with the rear lighting.
I actually first learned of this from a SAAB tech in the 90's. I have also done this to about 5 cars(900s), and it works great!
