1) he could have reduced your base boost (at the wastegate)- that would be quick and easy to do. See Bentley for how to set base boost to specifications.

2) he could have literally dialed down your boost in the APC box, but his would have been more tedious, and I don't suspect there are a lot of mechanics that would go this route. It will be more involved to reset it if this is what occurred. Best place I know of to wrap your brain around tuning the APC box is at 900aero.com, click the DIY and Tech tabs for a discussion of APC theory, tuning, and step by step instructions.
