Ray, This used to be a fairly common repair when there were lots of these on the road. There are really only two serious consequences of briefly overheating one of these engines; 1) warped head and 2) cracked head (see photo). So remove the head and look for cracks. If you don't find any then check the mating surface to see if it's flat. If it's a tiny bit warped get it milled. If it's horrendously warped you can get it pressed flat and milled but it might be cheaper to find a good used one. Make sure you find the source of the overheating before putting the car back in service and deal with it. Of course sometimes old, tired head gaskets just fail on their own and cause overheating. If you replace the head keep the old one, they aren't making anymore of them and pretty soon even hurt ones will have value to us C900 nuts. There is some big outfit that "rebuilds" CYLINDER HEADS and they are an INTERNATIONAL company. They do terrible work. DO NOT trust them with your head, use a local shop only.
