but I think that it was the inexperienced shop that the previous owner used for a clutch replacement. I suspect that they were pretty rough with the input shaft when they were installing it and knocked it loose somehow. But yes, otherwise my experience has been the same - very tight!
And oil leaks like crazy without that seal. I filled the transmission and drove about 2.5 miles home from the seller's house. I wouldn't have driven further with the size of that leak.
