clean the element with some spray carb cleaner or MAF cleaner. Even with the air filter, the thermistor and sensing wire in the AMM tend to get a coating of road oil that inhibits heat transfer. The AMM measures air flow by measuring the amount of power it takes to lose a certain amount of heat as compared to the temperature of the measured air.
It's a common technique for measuring fluid flow, most often used for air. I design systems that use thermal dispersion sensors for measuring air flow to process tankage.
I cleaned the AMM sensing elements in my 900T a couple of weeks ago. It made a huge difference in idle stability.
