The triangle nuts are often loose and can be unscrewed with needle-nose pliers or almost any thin probe like a coat-hanger wire. Replace them with ordinary 1/4-20 nuts (yep those carriage bolts are 1/4-20 thread). If they are tight you can grind three points on an 11 mm or 7/16" socket to grab them.
