They are accessed from above inside the engine compartment. The driver's side is pretty well buried but reachable without removing anything. Use a bright flashlight and a deep socket on a long extension with a universal. If they have double nuts, you'll need a thin wrench to hold the lower nut. If the shock turns, secure it with vice grips. If the bushings are shot, you'll need to pull the shock to replace them. If they are loose, you'll get a rattle from them, even at low speeds over the slightest road irregularity when the shaft wobbles around in the hole. Good Luck!
