FWIW, that's what I did.
However the Saab part is designed to keep the vapors hot so they don't condense inside the hose. The distance from the tee to it's destination is quite long and I'm sure there was concern in cold temperatures about tougher bits going through the turbo. The pipe prevents that from happening.
(Why the PCV doesn't dump closer to the throttle plate, and what why the tee isn't on the other side of the head is another mattter entirely... )
