What I was trying to describe was that the oil leaks down from the bell housing to the skid plate that acts like a plate holding maple syrup....once the plate gets full of syrup, then it finds it's way to the floor. Then, the cat comes over and cleans it up :-)
I've had situations where the car doesn't leak ( or seem to ) when it's on level ground, and then point it upwards, so the plate leaks syrup, and eureka, there is a puddle under the car.....
So, whether it's trans oil, engine oil, brake fluid or maple syrup it all drains down through the witness hole in the bottom of the bell housing, and if there is a skid plate, then that is the next destination before gravity takes it to earth.
Happy New Year Cmyles -- trans stand pipe is working great
