1985 Saab with 300K and no repair record of a clutch change.
Ran into a mismatch between new flare nuts on the hose currently available through EEuro and the old slave cylinder from. Almost the least of issues. The unthreaded nose of the flare nut is longer on old fittings. Threads suitably modified, there was reason to hope for a match.
Went through six plus tries on the old slave. Even borrowed the local saab mechanic's special tool. Any additional details are less relevant than the conclusion that the new slave cylinder female seats are somehow different. Still puzzled because the old and new bullet flares look exactly the same. Went ahead and changed slave cylinder and whole nine yards. Mating new hose to new slave worked like a charm first time.
Lucky me. Turned out the clutch disk did not have a full millimeter to the rivets. Moral being that a total clutch overhaul has merit if you have any doubts about the hydraulics.
