If a 1982 8 valve distributor will fit in the same valve cover aperture as your 1980, you can use the hall effect 1982-1988 ( I think that is the span ) with the ignition amplifier.
We converted a reluctor type distributor to the hall effect on a 1981 H engine, but your 1980 engine is a B motor -- I don't know if the distributor body will fit on the valve cover, or if that is even where it's located. I thought those distributors were driven from a different location on the B engine, so my apologies if this is a wild goose chase.
It sounds like to me you are trying to change this over to a stand alone type of ignition system, and scuttle the OE type -- better call Brad at 816-333-6582 at George's Imports.
