This one is embarrassing. I've been short-cutting, to no good result.
I recently replaced the upper hoses on my AC, then refilled system with enviro-safe. I had done this last year before hoses replaced, and got nice cold air...for about 2 days before the ES leaked out. Both times I did not do a vacuum pull, figured I could live with a less than maximized system ( I dumbly figured that air would still work, just be slightly less cold), and I filled it with ES again.
Well this was the case for a week or so, moderately chilled air. Then it stopped chilling altogether, even though my system pressure remained the same, and the compressor started cycling on and off. I noticed that when I would connect the lines to test, the gas that would escape would be mixed with a large amount of oil, really gooey. Had I put in too much refrigerant? Was the fact that there was moisture in the system making the oil somehow get all slaggy and gooey in the compressor? I've messed around with ES and my compressor in two different 900s, never had the oil coming out of the low pressure port, damn.
So it being ES, I figured I wasn't a jerk to just let the refrigerant out and maybe try again after I had vacuumed it down, and it was hard to let it out without all of this orange oil coming out all over the place. The ES has orange dye, seems to have mixed up with the oil in the system.
I've ordered a manifold gage set and a vacuum pump online (75 bucks for both on Ebay) and want to try again after drawing down, but have I ruined components by running then with moist air in the system? From what I'm reading, maybe I should replace receiver/dryer as well? I have a can of ES oil replacement, thinking I might add it to make up for oil lost as described, as well as oil that might have been in the old hoses that I replaced (that I didn't even think about until all of this started happening). Any guidance would be most welcome...thanks Saabsters, I've been hitting you up a lot lately.
