A long shot, but here's my experience. I have a 1988 SPG that suffered from intermittent starting. Turned out to be the turbo "over-pressure" switch, which is a vacuum actuated switch between the main relay and the fuel pump relay. Its job is to kill the motor if it senses that the turbo charger is in a dangerous over-boost state. On my car the electrical connection at the switch was corroded, giving intermittent connectivity between the main and fuel pump relays, and hence intermittent starts. The switch is under the dash near the drivers side. Its white (I think, this was a long time ago), has two brown wires, and a vacuum hose attached. Best way to find it is to follow the black vacuum hose.
The fuel pump relay also provides voltage to the fuel injectors. So just jumping the circuit at the fuse box (to manually operate the fuel pump) is not sufficient since the injectors are not operating.
On the other hand, fuel pumps can be intermittent, as can the relays. Try jumping the fuel pump, either at the fuse box or directly (wires just above the fuel tank. See if it operates when you car is in a no-start state.
Listen for the relays clicking when you try to start the car. You should hear clicks from the passenger side footwell.
There's no much else that can cause a good running car to have intermittent starting issues.
good luck
