Might be easier to take off the vacuum line on the intake manifold and blow into the line. It should check or hold the pressure.
If you blow into the check valve from the valve cover side, it should flow easily back into the intake manifold.
So, the line should always flow towards the intake manifold and always check pressure to the valve cover.
