I bought a 1983 sedan out from under a snowbank last winter and recently started daily driving it. So far, it's been a hoot to drive, but it has raised a question: Could this car be geared differently than the two 1986 8-valve, 5-speeds I drive? At 3,000 RPM I hit 35 in 3rd gear, and 5th gear hits 3k RPM at 65, a lot slower than my other cars. The car is old enough and well-used enough at over 200k miles (the odo's dead) that it might have had a transmission rebuild at some point. It was also ordered from the factory, I think, which made me wonder about how a 5-speed could have been configured back in 1983. Any ideas?
