What's Bentley say about re-torquing after running?

Hi all - -
I'm doing a head gasket on a 9000 and am at torque time. I've somehow managed to misplace my trusty Bentley.
I did the 45 and then the 65 ft lbs. in the correct order, off the Townsend web site's reprints of Saab technical bulletins.
That bulletin then calls for running the engine and then loosening each bolt in turn, re-torquing all to 65, and only then doing the final 90 degrees tightening.
I did this a few years ago following Bentley, and don't remember anything about running the car and loosening before final tightening. I'd really rather not as it's likely a messy PIA to remove the nice clean valve cover, all torqued down correctly, and drip oil all over my cleaned up motor.
DOES Bentley call for this too? If so I suppose I'll do it but how important can it be? I want to get out the long breaker bar and cheater right now and finish this bolt tightening off. Still some daylight left and dawn is before 5 a.m. tomorrow.
