You need a special tool that grips the hose while you tap the fitting in. Do not heat the tubing, even if it helps get the fitting in it weakens the tubing and there is a chance of overheating and deforming it. You can make a tool by clamping two identical blocks of hardwood (Hard Maple, Birch, Beech, etc.) together then drill a stepped hole across right at the joint. Remove the clamp, place the blocks on the hose, replace the clamp across them and tap the fitting in. If you want to get fancy you can cross-drill the blocks for bolts and put away the C-clamp. Sounds hokey, works great.
