Does a magnaflow cat still function like a stock cat? Is there a way to drummel wheel the heat shield off and then fabricate some addition shielding until you actually need to do other exhaust work. Getting the present cat off w/o damaging other components may not be easy and might boost your expenses. The cat is what generates the heat yes? I got what was called a "test" pipe off the bay years ago. Here in KY where there is no inspection I used it as a model to have a few made at an exhaust place. I did all this when the cats were high for sale at salvage yards. Some gutter rat thief cut the cat off of one of my cars while it was in the drive way. Know I did not answer your question but maybe some other options.
