overnight idle disaster

my 88 turbo was running great after recent tune up. I decided to finally put on my newly painted spare valve cover. While tightening it down my torque wrench fell onto both battery terminals causing quite a little scene. Some smoke appeared from radiator grounds. Inspected and nothing looked melted or in bad shape. After putting it all back together I called it a night. In the morning the car fired right up. Idled high for a few seconds and then idle surged like crazy. Almost stalling then back up. Finally evens out at about 1200 then a couple minutes later a perfect 850. It hesitates through all gears for the first few minutes then when fully warm it runs perfect. Does the same thing every morning. Even if I park it for an hour or so , it won't surge but there is slight hesitation for a couple minutes. So anyway, did I fry something. Or was not using a new valve cover gasket a bad idea. And causing a massive vacuum leak. New amm.new ntc. All new vacuum lines, new fpr etc... Plug wires cap. It was an overnight change in performance. Thanks and sorry for wordiness.
