I looked through the SAABnet archives and it appears that in theory, a 4 spd gearbox from the pre-C900 cars (what was that model again?) was "matable" to every engine block eventually used in the C900s throughout their entire run. Considering what a hassle a tranny swap is, hard to believe that anyone would go that route for what looks like a rather nice low-milage car. Oh, there were pix of the engine in question, and it's certainly an NA 16V. I will ask the seller to send the GM number and will post it ASAP if he does.

(Not that I've necessarily blown off a trip to NOLA to do bizniz, of which we earlier spoke!)
