Usually the smell goes away after the brake pads have been broken in by hard stops followed by some drive time to allow them to cool. If the pads still continue to smell, then check to be sure calipers are not seized and the e-brake is loose enough and not allow the pad(s) to drag and heat up. You might find the dragging ones have built up some heat and it is the hard stop that sends it into the overheating condition. Find the wheel(s) that are hot and smelly, then check them out first.
