I don't think you'll see much of a difference in the body flex back there.
Think about it this way. Jack up the car and operate the doors -- if you can put in a temp bar, weld it in by just tacking it and and then operate the doors again. See if the doors work any differently with the body stiffener in it. If you can stop the body flex when jacking the car, you'll probably stop the body flex during autocross left/right hard on/hard off throttle.
Most of all, you want to put it on a diet and lose as much weight as you can. Throw it all off the deck like you're one of Dolittle's raiders.
I use 600 pound springs and konis all the way around. Keep your power steering, you'll need it and if you can find a larger diameter steering wheel, it will help you muscle it around quickly. If you are a short slender guy, it won't matter if the wheel is larger OD.
I used really tall gearing so I never had to shift out of first -- with the late model gearbox, early intermediate gears, and #8 primaries, I can almost hit 40 in first gear wound out.
Oh, and you'll want solid engine mounts, and an LSD for the gearbox. OK, so there goes about 10 grand and hundreds of hours of work.
Sure you don't want a Miata for autocross?
