Do it. I have replaced tops like the pros do, and have removed tops. It helps to have at least one other helper when removing and replacing as a unit.You will still have to have a air fired staple gun and proper staples to nail down the edges and back Look up the details and beware of pinched fingers. The black tack strip which is composed of hard plastic/rubber type material may be broken on your vert and the donor. Salvage all you can from the donor car and remove the staples don't rip the area that's stapled down. . When you get to the part about stapling the back and side edges of the top material back down. leave the top unlatched from the front and put two 3/4 inch thick pieces of wood to keep top from the windshield top. then staple and then bring top to latch position. These are just GENERAL guidelines to help you see what needs to happen.
