As I recall, the threads on the LCA are 7/16-20 SAE which of course is odd being a mostly metric car.
I'd try something like finding a metric size and pitch that is very close but just smaller than the standard, and cut the threads with a die, and then use a good self locking nut on the assembly. It won't look pretty, but it should hold if you use the plastic interference type locking nuts. You might give it a dab of thread locker as well.
