My comments only pertain to the Saab 900's 92-94 (convertibles). Saab says, not necessary to service their manual transmission for the life of the car. Maybe they meant "5 year/50,000 miles", which was their drive train warranty. I've also read that there was not a drain plug and that you would have to siphon the oil out of the fill plug. I decided to service mine. I found the drain plug on the bottom toward the back of the transmission. The fill/check plug was on the passenger side of the transmission and had a "dip stick" attached. My oil was black and disgusting. It holds 4 quarts and I put in standard 10W30, which is what Saab used. Noticeable difference. Important to remove the fill plug before the drain plug, just in case you cannot remove the drain plug.
