SPG terminal rust, really this time Posted by JB90 [Email] (#1688) [Profile/Gallery] (more from JB90) on Sun, 8 May 2016 05:31:39 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I'm interested in thoughts on how to proceed
I received a call late Friday afternoon from my Saab mechanic saying I needed to come look at something ASAP (never a good sign). He was supposed to be adding some support to the rear upper spring mounts, but when I got there the spring mount tabs were on the floor, clearly they had broken off in his hand. Hopefully this photo link works, if not maybe someone can help since I'm not sure I have the posting process down. I included a non-underbody shot to hopefully show that I wasn't insane trying to keep this one going:

My mechanic is a really stand-up guy, Brian at Retrospect Saab in Waterboro ME. We both came to the same conclusion that this is the death blow for this car. The engine, transmission, interior, etc are excellent. His suggestion is to find a good turbo body with blown engine/transmission to swap mine onto. The problem is that those a few and far between in the Northeast, definitely available out west but the shipping would be a deal breaker. I like the idea of the swap, but am wondering if I am better off just cutting my losses and parting this one out. Then I could look for a complete package car, although it wouldn't have this nicely tuned SPG engine. What would you do i this position (besides not buy the rusty SPG in the first place)
