Though I'm late in this thread, what I've noticed is the diameter ( fulcrum point ) of the early model pressure plates have a larger diameter than the ones built in the aftermarket.
So, when you compress the later versions with the stock height spacer, the splines don't retract as far. Another example of reverse engineering done so things don't work as they should. I could rant that subject for a couple years, but instead we just plod along, fix the under sight of aftermarket suppliers and move on.......kind of what you had to do.
How's your back now? Permanently bent forward from leaning into the malestrom?
