I've been posting a lot lately trying to get my 86 SPG back into shape, and I'm failing (despite great help from a lot of you)...
The car was running great about 2 months ago when my clutch slave failed and had to be replaced and I ended up replacing all of the clutch components because I found other parts to be leaking. At the same time, I replaced the steering rack, PS pump, and hoses then I needed an alignment. I took the car to a reputable Saab mechanic here in Minneapolis for the alignment and to do a quick once-over to see if there was anything else that needed to be done immediately. The car did not start for him and he discovered that the hall sensor plug was dirty so he cleaned it and completed the alignment. He also adjusted the timing down a little bit because it was off.
Upon picking up the car, it began to buck terribly once it reached normal temperature. I took the car back to the mechanic and he had no such experience. I then replaced plugs, wires, cap, and rotor, no difference. I tested all ignition components for voltage, resistance, etc. and discovered the hall sensor had no output signal. I couldn't track down a new sensor so I ordered a remanufactured distributor with a hall sensor already installed. I completed the installation and the car started nicely, idled properly, and the timing was right on at 16 degrees BTDC.
As soon as I decided it was good to take out on the road, the bucking happened before I even got out of the garage. It goes away when I engage the clutch so I had to ease it back in so I could close the door. I did smell a much stronger gasoline smell when the car was puttering and I tried to record the sound it made:

It's a little hard to hear over the cooling fan running but you can hear it struggling. This was recorded with me in neutral and just giving the car a little gas. You can hear it smooth out at the end of the clip which when I let off the gas. I'm guessing I'm going to need to begin diagnosing the fuel system?? The car had a brand new fuel pump installed when I bought it last fall.
The puzzling part is that none of the work I completed on the car should have affected anything that would cause this problem. Thanks a lot for reading this long post and I welcome all ideas or similar experiences and solutions....
