Try putting a ground jumper wire closer to the headlight connector. Shave some insulation off or jam a paperclip into the backside of the connector and use alligator clips to bring a ground connection closer. If it helps, then that is an indication of where to start debugging the problem. Also confirm there is + voltage at the headlight connector using a meter. 12V + at the headlight with no ground means no light and vise-versa. Tell us what you find.
