I chased down a mystery leak like that on my '89 T a few years ago.
Turned out that it was the 1/2" coolant hose that runs to the turbo from a metal hose on the block. Took me weeks to find it. When I got to it ad gave it a yank, it ripped. The only thing holding it together was divine intervention :-) The reinforcing cords had rotted away.
The OEM hose is curved and NLA. However, I found that the curve was gentle enough that 1/2" heater hose works.
You may also want to check the compression nut that holds the metal coolant line into the turbo. I had one get loose.
