I have recently done this to a 5-speed transmission to start some discussion on what should and shouldn't be done as far as a "girdle" to strengthen the transmission. I have a transmission that was built by Rob Walden of Scanwest Autosport. It has cryogenic treated and shotpeened gears, etc, and a Quaife limited slip differential. This is not 'done' by any means, just started to initiate some discussion. There is a thread about this on Saabrally.com
