Anders (SWEDECAR) suggested this several years ago: cut the aluminum collars that hold the hoses on the the fittings at both ends with a Dremel and replace the old hoses with Gates high temp hydraulic lines and double-clamp the hose to the end pieces.
I did this to my '89 in 2007.
On my '89 the hoses were 5/16"
A friend has a local shop put stainless steel braided hoses on the fittings. They look way better, but there's always the hazard of breaking a fitting at the oil cooler when removing it to take to the hose shop.
