I've purchased and have used a rebuilt distributor from an online retailer.
I can't find my records for the specific shop where I bought one maybe eight or nine years ago; I'm not sure if it was Rock Auto.
One odd thing I remember: they did NOT want to give me the correct info for where to send in my failed distributor for the core charge. I got the run-around for about a week with a call-center operation and they would promise to give me the address info in an email. And then never send any email. I resorted to telling them that I had no email and they were forced to read off an address. Not sure why this was happening, perhaps they didn't really want to deal with "cores" and instead keep that core charge as further profit margin.
Another thing: the new distributor had new electrical stuff but did NOT have new internal oil seals. So the thing worked just fine once swapped in but was leaking oil at a fairly decent rate soon after purchase. A bothersome feature for a "rebuilt" part. I've been promising myself to take it apart someday and replace the old seals with new.
Those are my recollections. I'd rebuild 'em myself if I had more time.
