Simon,
Thank you for your post!
The 1990 900T should be using an NGK BCP-6ES or BCP-7EV plug, only and gapped to .024-.028 dependent on charging pressures.
Many customers have found that use of alternative spark plugs could cause detonation due to electrode heating and causing the air fuel mixture to combust prior to the plug having an opportunity. The engine's compression of air fuel will create resistance within the combustion chamber requiring a narrower spark plug gap to create correct spark. On your turbocharged engine, the higher the turbocharger boost pressures, the greater the resistance within the combustion chamber. When customers have opted to employ a boost pressure increase through an APC upgrade, for example, most adjust the plug gap to .024 and the ignition timing would be slightly reduced at 15DBTDC.
You may get started by making certain that you have a correct spark plug, ignition wire(OEM) which would be a good weekend start to resolving your conditions.
Thanks again and please reply if you should have any questions.
Sincerely,
Gary K. at SDI
