I had the same suspicion as Saabina. Are you trying to use a NG900 sender integral to the pump housing?
The sender on a c900 is a separate item mounted away from the pump in another part of the tank. It is an aluminum cylinder press fit to a cap with a harness connector on top. The cylinder can get twisted on the cap, and then the internal shafts that the float rides on can get helixed (out of parallel). Once that happens, the float can't ride all the way up or down the cylinder and you don't get an accurate reading. You can disassemble them, being careful not to pull the internal wire connections apart, and get everything realigned as you put it back together. I usually put a small screw through the aluminum cylinder and into the cap at the top to hold it in place.
