If it is a used temp sensor, then that's your answer.
There is a grounding attachment behind the radiator that perhaps is bad and reacting to engine heat.
I still think the temp sensor has something to do with this.
I'll follow your progress.
In EVERY one of my Saab 900 and 9000's this was the issue from what you describe.
In one I had random issues also with grounding that gave different issues.
