I don't think they had external amps in '89 - that wasn't until the '90s. And the signal would have been via DIN cable. I sounds like it's actually the plug for the passive seat belt logic box, or maybe an ABS module? I can't think of any amp that would use a plug that could be confused for a Bosch-style one.
The passive seat belt wiring can be removed wholesale - it's actually a really messy subharness with minimal connections to chassis wiring - just one big grey wire to the battery, switched power a few grounds, and the seatbelt light. It comes out all together pretty nicely.
