Good points. The Saab 900 setup is a little different than the pic because the "hub" is not a separate unit that bolts to the knuckle like in this picture (and also like on the rear of the car). The variety of names I've come across while searching for the parts is certainly confusing. I've confused it more.
As JVA pointed out, I was wrong about the hub/knuckle being the same. It's the hub/spindle that is the same. Although when I searched for a front hub I kept getting rear hubs in the search results because the rear is always referred to as a hub. I don't know if that's because it's a self contained bolt-on unit or what.
On the front of the c900 the thing that the wheel bolts to is pressed into the inner race on the bearing, and the outer race is pressed into the steering knuckle. There can't be any play in either contact area.
Sorry for the confusion.
