A busy week so far, so no time to inspect the situation. However, the car DID shift into reverse, so I was able to pull it into the garage.
In the event that my problem is the shift coupler, which I'm suspecting that it is, I've begun to anticipate the repair. Cold weather is coming so I'd like to have a strategy in mind.
I am not sure how to proceed in repairing it.
Mine is the "old style" one not the dog bone one. Can it be serviced? I see bushings available through eeuroparts, but I am not sure if that's what I need.
Or...do ppl swap to the dog bone style linkage nowadays for lack of options?
And lastly, I saw a thread that mentioned someone who'd used a u-joint instead. The car reportedly shifted "like a bolt action rifle." I think this is an option that I'd like, and I have some ideas about how to fab it up, but I've been unable to find any info about how anyone's done it.
Advice appreciated.
